Art. 1 ORGANIZERS

In collaboration with the Municipality of Cortina d’Ampezzo, the Alpine Rescue Team and the Italian Alpine Club, Outdoor Action Srl have organized the 15th edition of “La Sportiva Lavaredo Ultra Trail”, a trail running race in semi-autonomy in an alpine environment, from Friday 24 to Sunday 26 June 2022.

 

Art. 2 GENERAL INFORMATION

The “La Sportiva Lavaredo Ultra Trail” is a running race along trails in the Dolomite Mountains - a World Heritage site - that is about 120 km long and has a variation in altitude of 5,800 metres. The race is run in semi-autonomy and starts on Friday 24 June 2022 at 11.00 p.m. in Corso Italia in Cortina d’Ampezzo; maximum time: 30 hours.

 

Art. 3 PARTICIPATION REQUIREMENTS

In order to participate in the race, athletes must have had previous experience in the mountains, should not suffer from vertigo, should have a high standard of athletic preparation and have suitable clothes for temperatures that can range from -5 to + 30 degrees celsius.

It is also obligatory to have completed at least one qualifying race worth 4 points as per the ITRA classification (see Art. 4) between 1 January 2019 and 14 November 2021. 

 

Art. 4 REGISTRATION

a) Registration requirements
All athletes over the age of 18 with a competitive sports medical certificate (see Art. 5) valid until at least 26 June 2022 can register. Athletes who have been:
- disqualified for using doping substances;
- black listed by La Sportiva Lavaredo Ultra Trail
will not be permitted to register.

To register in the La Sportiva Lavaredo Ultra Trail, it is necessary to have completed at least one qualifying race worth 4 points between 1 January 2019 and 14 November 2021.
The evaluation criteria are those laid down by ITRA (www.itra.run).

b) How to register
To register in the La Sportiva Lavaredo Ultra Trail athletes must pre-register between 15 November 2021 (8:00 a.m. CET) and 25 November 25 2021 (10:00 p.m. CET).
Pre-registration is free of charge. If the number of pre-registered athletes exceeds the number of available race bibs, participating athletes will be drawn by lot from pre-registered athletes who meet the requirements.
Individual or group (maximum 12 people) registration is possible. If drawn by lot, groups will be considered as single units, that is to say, if extracted in the draw all members of the group can register for the race.

INDIVIDUAL REGISTRATION
When pre-registering, athletes must provide their personal data as well as the follow information:
- link to athletes’ ITRA page (https://itra.run/RunnerSpace) (for example: https://itra.run/RunnerSpace/10237)
- possible negative outcome in the LUT2020 lottery
- possible postponed registration from 2021.

GROUP REGISTRATION (minimum 2 and maximum 12 people)
Each member of the group must pre-register individually and together with personal data must provide the following information:
- link to their ITRA page (https://itra.run/RunnerSpace) (for example: https://itra.run/RunnerSpace/10237)
- name of the group which must be identical for each member.

On 1 December 2021, athletes who are drawn by lot will receive an email with the link to register. Registration must be completed by 5 December 2021. After this date, pre-registration will be annulled.

REGISTRATION WITHOUT LOTTERY
Athletes who were not extracted in the 2020 edition
All athletes who were not extracted to participate in the 2020 edition of the Lavaredo Ultra Trail and who meet the necessary requirements for participation and have the qualifying points (see Art. 4 a) can register. Nonetheless they must pre-register and tick the box for non-extracted athletes in the 2020 edition.

Pre-registration between 15 and 25 November 2021

Runners who meet the requirements can benefit from the above-described registration conditions provided that they have the necessary points for 2022.

Elite runners must:
- be present at press conferences and official ceremonies to which they are invited;
- be present at prize-giving ceremonies that concern them;
- arrive at the starting point at least twenty minutes before the beginning of the race.

c) Registration fees
The registration fee is 149.00 Euro and includes:
- race bib
- assistance and refreshment along the route and at the finish line
- race pack
- gadgets for finishers

d) Payment method
The registration fee must be paid by credit card.

e) Limited number
The maximum number of registered runners is 1,800.

f) Pulling out of the race and partial refunds
If an athlete cannot participate in the race, they must inform the organizers solely by email at the following address: This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it..
The following refunds have been laid down:
- pulling out before 31/12/2021: refund of 60% of fees
pulling out before 31/03/2022: refund of 50% of fees
pulling out before 23/05/2022: refund of 40% of fees
pulling out after 23/05/2022: no refund.
Refunds, net of bank charges, will be made before 31 August 2022 on the same credit card used to pay the fees.

Should the race be annulled for reasons beyond the control of the Organizers up to 15 days before the event, the Organizers will refund 50% of the registration fees paid. This percentage is made necessary by the various expenses that the Organizers have already incurred that cannot be recuperated.
Should the race be interrupted or annulled due to weather conditions, or for any other reason beyond the control of the Organizers, no refund of the registration fee will be made.

The following is not possible:
- postponing registration to the following year
- switching from one race to another
- race bib number exchange or use by anyone other than registered athletes.
Athletes caught with race bibs belonging to other athletes, even after the race, will be disqualified and put on the Lavaredo Ultra Trail blacklist.

     

Art. 5 MEDICAL CERTIFICATE

ITALIAN ATHLETES

Italian athletes must upload a copy of a valid competitive sports medical certificate to their Personal Active Profile at https://myevents.active.com by 15 May 2022. This certificate must be valid on 26/06/2022.
Failure to do so by this date will lead to the annulment of registration without refund.
Medical certificates accepted are those that show fitness for competitive sports: atletica leggera.

ITALIAN ATHLETES RESIDENT ABROAD

Italian athletes resident abroad who are unable to come to Italy to obtain a medical certificate for competitive sports must upload a copy of the medical certificate to be requested through the contact form >>, documenting that the athlete has undergone the same medical examinations provided for by Italian legislation, to their Personal Active Profile at https://myevents.active.com by 15 May 2022.
Failure to upload the certificate by this date will lead to the annulment of registration without refund. This certificate must be valid on 26/06/2022.

NON-ITALIAN ATHLETES

Non-Italian athletes must fill in the certificate downloadable here >>, have it signed and stamped by a doctor and upload it to their Personal Active Profile at https://myevents.active.com by 15 May 2022.
Failure to do so by this date will lead to the annulment of registration without refund. This certificate must be valid on 26/06/2022.

 

Art. 6 COLLECTION OF THE RACE BIB NUMBER AND RACE PACK

Race number and race pack distribution shall take place at the Ice Stadium (via Bonacossa 1, Cortina d’Ampezzo) from 10.00 am till 7.00 pm on Friday 24 June 2022.

To collect race bib numbers, athletes must present a valid identity document and exhibit all the mandatory equipment. Spot checks will be carried out.

 

Art. 7 MANDATORY EQUIPMENT

To address all the different possible climatic conditions on the day of the race, at their sole discretion and on the basis of the weather forecast provided by the competent body, the Organizers may modify the list of mandatory equipment. Any changes may be communicated up to 12 hours before the start of the race, therefore all athletes are advised to have all the mandatory equipment.
Athletes must have the following equipment with them for the entire duration of the race:
- race backpack carry mandatory equipment

- long sleeved sweater

- long trousers or tights

- hat or bandana

- warm and waterproof gloves

- water reserve of at least 1 litre

- beaker of minimum 15 cl

- race bib number visible during the entire duration of the race

- emergency thermal blanket (min. 2.00 m x 1.40)

- whistle

- cell phone switched on with emergency numbers stored

- waterproof jacket with an integrated hood, made with a waterproof membrane like Goretex with minimum 10,000 Schmerber, designed to withstand the bad weather in the mountains. (It is the runner's responsibility to bring a jacket that respects these criteria. In case of a check during the race, the steward or judge will decide if the jacket respects the criteria outlined in the official race regulations.)

- headlamp with spare batteries or two headlamps with batteries

- footwear appropriate for running on Dolomite terrain (stones, rocks, gravel)

- to reduce plastic consumption, disposable tableware (cutlery, beakers, plates, bowls) will not be handed out at refreshment stations or life bases, thus athletes must bring their own cutlery and containers if they wish to eat hot/cold food.

- energy bars or solid food

- at least 20€ to buy food in the Alpine huts if necessary

- elastic bandages for dressings

Mandatory equipment may be worn or placed inside the race backpack.
Spot checks on equipment will be carried out during the race.

RECOMMENDED EQUIPMENT
Race participants are advised to bring the following equipment with them:
- waterproof trousers

- mineral salts

- sunglasses

- warm long-sleeved sweatshirt

- sunscreen

- a third layer (fleece, quilted jacket etc.) in case of particularly cold weather.

Trekking poles are permitted.

   

Art. 8 MAXIMUM TIME LIMITS AND CUT OFF TIMES; WITHDRAWING FROM THE RACE

The maximum time allowed to reach the finish line is 30 hours (by 5 am on Sunday 26 June). A “pick up” service will follow the last runner, in order to assist athletes who withdraw from the race and to ensure assistance for anyone with injuries.

There shall be six time limit/cut off points, where a shuttle bus shall be present to pick up late athletes and take them back to Cortina:
- Passo Tre Croci  (28 km) by 4:30 a.m. on Saturday (5 hours and 30 minutes into the race)

- Misurina (43 km) by 8:30 a.m. on Saturday (9 hours and 30 minutes into the race)

- Cimabanche (66 km) by 1.30 p.m. on Saturday (14 hours and 30 minutes into the race)

- Malga Ra Stua (75 km) by 3:30 p.m. on Saturday (16 hours and 30 minutes into the race)

- Rifugio Col Gallina (95 km) by 9:30 p.m. on Saturday (22 hours and 30 minutes into the race)

- Passo Giau (103 km) by 12:00 midnight on Sunday. (25 hours into the race)

Cut off points are situated after refreshment stations. Athletes who do not reach these points by the established time limits will not be allowed to continue the race. Once athletes have gone beyond the cut-off point, it is forbidden to go back to use the refreshment station. Race officials reserve the right to disqualify athletes who disrespect the rules.
In order to safeguard the health of the participants, medical staff at the check points have the authority to stop runners who are judged unfit to continue the race. In this case, the participant must follow the indications of the medical staff. Anyone who fails to do so will be immediately disqualified.
Participants who reach the check points after the maximum time, those who are injured and those who are judged by the medical staff to be unfit to continue the race, and any other athletes who decide to drop out, shall be taken to the finish line by shuttle bus. For logistical reasons, athletes who have dropped out may have to wait before being accompanied to the finish area.
Any participant who drops out of the race at any point other than the established check points should make their own way back to Cortina and immediately inform the race Organizers by text message to the number indicated on the bib number.

 

Art. 9 REFRESHMENT STATIONS

Athletes are required to run in semi-autonomy and must carry at least one litre of liquid.
Semi-autonomy is defined as the capacity to be autonomous between two refreshment stations in relation to food, equipment and safety and to be able to adapt to any problems that may arise (bad weather, physical ailments, injury…).

This implies the following rules:
- Athletes must have all the mandatory equipment with them for the entire duration of the race.

- Food and drinks from refreshment stations must be consumed on the spot. Camelbags and water bottles may be filled with water only. When leaving a refreshment station, athletes should have sufficient water to get to the next refreshment station.

- At refreshment stations a limited series of food and drinks that the Organizers consider suitable to guarantee a proper diet for race athletes will be available. Any special dietary requirements must be managed autonomously by athletes.

Assistance to athletes from family members or team members is only permitted in some refreshment stations (see Art. 10), in the areas designated for “pick up” and with the agreement of the head of the refreshment station. Athletes may avail of assistance from only one person each.

There will be 8 refreshment stations along the route:

- Ospitale (18° km) ASSISTANCE PROHIBITED
- Passo Tre Croci (28° km) ASSISTANCE PROHIBITED
- Misurina (43° km) ASSISTANCE
- Cimabanche (66° km) ASSISTANCE
- Malga Ra Stua (75° km) ASSISTANCE PROHIBITED
- Rifugio Col Gallina (95° km) ASSISTANCE
- Passo Giau (103° km) ASSISTANCE
- Rifugio Croda da Lago (110° km) ASSISTANCE PROHIBITED

  

There are also two water points:
- Rifugio Auronzo (48th km)

- Malga Travenanzes (89th km)

Only athletes with a visible race bib number will have access to refreshment stations.
In the the refreshment stations, food and drinks will be served only by refreshment station personnel. Rubbish must be placed in the appropriate containers.

At the finish line there will be another refreshment station.
There are several fountains along the route where athletes can refill their water supply. During the day, it will also be possible for athletes to stop at the mountain shelters along the route to purchase food and drink (at their own expense).

 

Art. 10 ASSISTANCE DURING THE RACE

Assistance given to athletes by family or team members is only permitted in the following refreshment stations, in the areas designated for “pick up” and with the agreement of the head of the refreshment station.
- Misurina (43rd km)

- Cimabanche (66th km)

- Rifugio Col Gallina (95th km)  

- Passo Giau (103rd km)

Only one assistant per athlete may access the area solely once the athlete has arrived.
Pacing and muling are not allowed.

  

Art. 11 CHANGING ROOMS, BAG DEPOSIT AND RUNNERS’ BAGS

A changing room will be available at PALESTRA REVIS (via dei Campi 1, Cortina d’Ampezzo) from 8.30 pm to 10.30 pm on Friday 24 June.

BAG DEPOSIT
The bag deposit will be at PALESTRA REVIS (via dei Campi 1, Cortina d’Ampezzo) where athletes who wish can leave their bags between 8.30 pm and 10.30 pm on Friday 24 June.
Bags must clearly exhibit the number sticker handed out to athletes with race bibs. Athletes are advised not to place objects of value in their bags. In any case, the Organizers accept no liability for any theft, loss or damage to bags or their contents. Bags may be collected at Palestra Revis between 3 pm on Saturday 25 June and 12 noon on Sunday 26 June upon presentation of race bib. Under no circumstances will the Organizers send uncollected bags to athletes’ residences.

RUNNERS’ BAGS FOR CIMABANCHE
Each athlete will receive a bag with their race bib in which to place a change of clothes to use at Cimabanche (66th km) life base. Athletes must place the number sticker they received with their race bib on the bag. The bags must be handed in between 8.30 pm and 10.30 pm on Friday 24 June at PALESTRA REVIS (via dei Campi 1, Cortina d’Ampezzo). Only bags provided by the Organizers will be transported to Cimabanche.
Bags with clothes left at Cimabanche may be collected at Palestra Revis between 3 pm on Saturday 25 June and (no later than) 12 noon on Sunday 26 January upon presentation of race bib numbers. Under no circumstances will the Organizers send uncollected bags to athletes’ residences. Bags that are not collected by the deadline will be immediately destroyed for hygienic reasons. Athletes are advised not to place objects of value in their bags. In any case, the Organizers accept no liability for any theft, loss or damage to bags or their contents.

    

Art. 12 START OF RACE

Athletes must be in Corso Italia in Cortina d’Ampezzo (BL) by 10.30 pm on Friday 24 June 2022. At 11 pm the race begins.

  

Art. 13 RACE ROUTE

The La Sportiva Lavaredo Ultra trail race route has been classified with a red label: EE itinerary for expert excursionists. This itinerary requires the ability to run on particular kinds of terrain as well as impervious or treacherous trails or paths (slopes with rocky outcroppings or debris) that are sometimes without barriers.

La Sportiva Lavaredo Ultra Trail 2022 takes the following route:
Cortina (Corso Italia), Cadin di Sopra, Ghedina Lake, Posporcora Pass, Pian de Ra Spines, Ospitale, Padeon Valley, Somforca hairpin bend, Tre Croci Pass, Valbona, Federavecchia, Pian Maccetto, Misurina, d’Antorno Lake, Auronzo Shelter, Lavaredo hairpin bend, Rienza Valley, Landro Lake, Carbonin, Cimabanche, Lerosa hairpin bend, Malga Ra Stua, Pian de Loa, Travenanzes Valley, Col dei Bos hairpin bend, Col Gallina Shelter, Pian dei Menis, Averau Shelter (Nuvolau hairpin bend), Giau Pass, Giau hairpin bend, Ambrizzola hairpin bend, Croda da Lago Shelter, Mortisa, Cortina (Corso Italia).
It is 120 km long and has an altitude variation of 5,800 metres.

Should adverse weather conditions occur or one or more paths become inaccessible, alternative routes will be outlined at the briefing before the start of the race.
Race kilometres are not marked. Athletes should strictly adhere to the marked race route and avoid taking shortcuts or cutting out sections of the route. Any departures from the official route will lead to disqualification and shall be at the sole risk of athletes.

  

Art. 14 INSURANCE

Participants are strongly advised to take out valid individual insurance to cover search and rescue costs in Italy.

Athletes are responsible for handing over their personal file to their insurance company if necessary within the given timeframe.

  

Art. 15 SAFETY AND CHECK POINTS

The Organizers and the Alpine Rescue Team, in constant contact with Race HQ, will be positioned along the race route. Ambulances with paramedics shall be positioned at different points along the race route, but also at the start and finish, where a doctor and an advanced medical facility shall be present.
Check points shall be set up along the route, where members of the staff shall monitor the athletes as they pass and also apply random checks to verify that the athletes are in possession of the mandatory race equipment. Should anyone refuse to undergo the check on the mandatory race equipment, they shall be disqualified immediately.

 

Art. 16 ENVIRONMENT

The race takes place in a protected natural park area with a natural eco system. Participants are therefore required to fully respect the Alpine environment, in particular by not leaving rubbish, picking flowers or disturbing the wildlife. Anyone found leaving rubbish along the route shall be disqualified from the race and incur the penalties laid down by municipal regulations. The Organizers invite athletes to bring a bag to carry rubbish or hankies to the refreshment stations.
It is obligatory to follow the signposted paths and short cuts that can damage the surrounding environment must be avoided.

To reduce plastic consumption, disposable tableware (cutlery, glass, plates, bowls) will not be handed out, thus athlete must bring their own cutlery and containers if they wish to eat hot/cold food.

  

Art. 17 WEATHER

In case of adverse weather conditions (dense fog, snow or thunder storms), the Organizers reserve the right to make last-minute changes, even during the race, to the race route in order to eliminate potential hazards or conditions that could cause hardship for participants. The staff shall inform the participants of any changes. The Organizers also reserve the right to suspend or cancel the race if the weather conditions are such that they put athletes, staff or medical teams at risk.

 

Art. 18 DISQUALIFICATION, PENALTIES AND APPEALS

The following infringements will lead to immediate disqualification and withdrawal of the race bib number:
- failing to pass a check point

- taking shortcuts

- leaving rubbish along the race route

- failing to aid a participant in difficulty

- insulting or threatening staff or volunteers

- using transport during the race

- refusing to undergo checks by the medical staff along the race route

- refusing to allow checks on mandatory equipment.

A one-hour penalty will be incurred for the following infringements:
- failing to have a head lamp, an anorak, an emergency blanket, camel bag or bottles with a 1-litre capacity

- availing of unauthorised assistance or assistance outside of the areas laid down in the regulation.

A thirty-minute penalty will be incurred for the following infringements:
- failure to have: a whistle, spare batteries or second headlamp, long sleeved top, long trousers or tights, cap or bandana, gloves, drinking cup or water bottle; failure to show the race number bib.

The penalty may be applied immediately as soon as the infringement has been established or at the end of the race.
Penalties or disqualification can be appealed by writing to the race management within 30 minutes of publication of race results. Appeals will be evaluated and answered in the necessary time; decisions are final, without appeal.

 

Art. 19 PRIZES

The first 10 men and 10 women will receive prizes.
All participants that finish the race within the maximum time limit will receive a Finisher gadget.
Prize-giving will take place on Sunday 26 June at 12:00 noon in Piazza Dibona in Cortina.
Under no circumstances will prizes be sent or handed out in advance.

   

Art. 20 IMAGE RIGHTS

On registration, athletes authorise the Organizers to freely use any still or moving images depicting them during their participation in La Sportiva Lavaredo Ultra Trail with no territorial or time limits.

 

Art. 21 WAIVER OF RESPONSIBILITY

Voluntary registration and subsequent participation in the race indicates full acceptance of the race rules and regulations and any subsequent changes made to them. By registering, participants exempt the Organizers from any civil or criminal liability for damage to persons and/or property caused by or to them.
